Creating Discharge Orders (EPCS Only) Quick Reference Guide
This quick reference guide provides the steps required to create a Discharge Order.
Discharge Orders allow residents to leave your facility with pharmacy orders that, after being electronically signed by the prescriber, are electronically transmitted to their preferred pharmacy.
Discharge Orders do not appear on eMAR, paper MAR, or any other orders reports because they do not require administration in the facility and do not require written prescriptions.
Note
A Discharge Order can be struck out or discontinued as long as it has not been electronically signed by the prescriber.
After a Discharge Order is electronically signed by the prescriber, it can only be discontinued. You need to notify the pharmacy about any discontinued orders because this information is not transmitted electronically.
From the resident's Orders tab > next to a discharge order, select Actions > select Discontinue or Strike Out.
Note
When a resident returns to the facility after being discharged, any existing Discharge Orders with a status of Active, Completed, or Pending Signature are automatically changed to a status of Historical.
From the resident's chart > Orders tab, do one of the following:
- Click New Discharge Order.
- Use the search to Create a Discharge Order using an Order Template.
Note
You can create new orders for a resident or search from a list of order templates. Order templates are pre-built orders with all or some of the order entry fields populated making order entry faster and more efficient. For more information for creating Order Templates, see Creating and Managing Order Templates.
